With its soft golden glow
Breathing deeply

Bright falling leaves
Trail crunches underfoot
Poignancy of change

Fire-red leaves
Laced with frost
Sun rises slowly

Unsettled
The autumn sky
Refuses to rest

Out of the darkness
Runners materialize
As the day unveils

A rugged thread
Between lakes and travelers
Long day on the trail

Sound of nuthatches
Venus and Mars
Linger

Frosted rooftops
Rabbit with leaf-filled mouth
Scampers away

This one lap
Leaning into the wind
And nothing else
