With sparkling morning dew
Run to greet the light

Goldfinches dancing
Each breath and beat of the heart
A brief, fleeting gift

Through the morning hush
Runners meet to make the rounds
Chase the cloud rainbow

Crisp late summer dawn
Blue jays cry out urgently
Seeking attention

What’s the time, they ask
Then join the morning rounds
Pink-laced clouds delight

Early yellow leaves
Bored cow gives no courtesy
To humble runners

Footsteps on the path
Rain landing on the green leaves
The water, singing

Between showers
Willow touches the water
Weather vane stands still
