Far above the snow
Stretching

Bundled children
Running, chasing, digging in
Piles of laughter

A blur within
The white wind
Winter rabbit

Summer’s trail
Resting three feet
Below the snow

Sound of the plow
And of falling snow
Crunching underfoot

My thousandth haiku
And all I have to show is
An icy booter

Moment’s sunrise
Dancing through the treetops
Morning breath

Listening
In the dark
The silent trees

Yard lights
Stretching
Into the clouds

On the night she left
A song on the empty air –
Go easy, little doves
