Dry and shaking in the breeze
The sound of applause

Crunching underfoot
Rustling synthetic layers
Silent flurries

Dashing through the snow
Making first tracks of the day
O’er fields I go…

Dark before morning
I trace a square around town
Anticipation

Crunching footsteps
Breath rising upward
Twinkling stars

Golden, green, and gray
Frost sinks through the sandy ridge
Silence settles in

The first taste
Of crisp winter air
On my tongue
